Geographic Information Systems for Field

Prerequisites: None
This course will introduce concepts of GIS to students interested in applying this technology to research in the field. Students will learn to use ArcGIS software and Garmin hand-held GPS units using Appledore Island and the surrounding waters and islands of the Isles of Shoals archipelago as the course field site. Creating, managing, and analyzing data will be covered, along with methods of importing GPS data into GIS, representing data, making maps, and linking pictorial and geographic information.
