Working Internship (all positions are full for 2012!)

LEARN AND EARN on Appledore Island! 

   

TAKE A COURSE AT SHOALS this summer, AND consider WORKING on Appledore to complete your island experience!

- Help the cooks in the KITCHEN

- Keep the dorms and common areas CLEAN

- Learn about COMPOSTING and living sustainably

- Work with the Island Staff on projects; on boats; and on the rocks!

- Meet new FRIENDS and make new connections

Stipend: Interns are paid ($8/hour for a 48 hour work-week) as Cornell employees. Also includes housing, all meals, and 2 round trips between Portsmouth, NH and Appledore/week.

Selection/Eligibility: Complete a course at Shoals and become a Working Intern on Appledore Island! All undergraduate students, 18 or older, who've taken a course at Shoals regardless of the year can apply! New undergrad students, 18 or older, who complete a course in 2012 are eligible as well! If you are taking a course in 2012, Working Internship slots will be assigned AFTER your other courses/internships are complete (you won't have time to work while you study!). Alums do not have to be enrolled in a course to be eligible (for example, if you took a course in 2011, but are not enrolled for 2012, you can still apply). Applicants must be available to work for a minimum of 2 weeks with a suggested maximum of 6 weeks. We are sorry, high school students (even alums) are not eligible.

Description: Interns are supervised by the Res Life Coordinator; tasks include keeping res halls, common areas and dining facilities clean! Part of the experience will include the opportunity to be part of the inner workings of running a successful field station.

Employment details: Once you've completed signing-up, you will be asked to submit a Cornell University Employment Application (references required). Once accepted, employment documentation (required by Federal Law and Cornell University) will be provided as part of your SML Employment Packet. These documents must be completed before arrival on Appledore Island.
