Working Internships 

LEARN AND EARN on Appledore Island! 

   

BEFORE AND/OR AFTER taking a course at Shoals this coming summer,
consider WORKING on Appledore to complete your island experience!

- Help the cooks in the KITCHEN

- Keep the dorms and common areas CLEAN

- Learn about COMPOSTING and living sustainably

- Work with the Island Staff on projects; on boats; and on the rocks!

- Meet new FRIENDS and make new connections

Stipend: Interns are paid ($8.00/hour) as Cornell employees. Also includes housing, all meals, and two round trips between Portsmouth, NH and Appledore per week.

Employment details: Employment documentation is required by Federal Law, and Cornell University, and must be completed before arrival on Appledore Island. All required documentation will be provided as part of the SML Employment Packet, including a Cornell University Employment Application (references required). Cornell students will be hired via Cornell Student Employment Services; Non-Cornell students are WELCOME to apply!

Selection: Previous experience working or studying at Shoals is required. Interns must be available to work for a minimum of 2 weeks with a suggested maximum of 6 weeks.  Applicants must be be 18 years of age or older. New students, 18 or older, who have completed a course in 2010 are eligible as well. Alums do not have to be enrolled in a course to be selected.

Description: Interns will be supervised by the Resident Life Coordinator and be involved in keeping res halls, common areas and kitchen clean!  Part of the experience will include the opportunity to be part of the inner workings of running a successful field station!
