JOBS AT SML section: Teaching Assistantships

We will begin accepting T.A. applications in January 2010.
Applicants should have previous teaching experience at a university, high school or other field station. SML alumni are encouraged to apply. Please send a COVER LETTER and RESUME electronically to: Christine Bogdanowicz (ccb5@cornell.edu). Your letter and/or resume should include course preferences, dates of availability and 2 references (please provide a phone number, and e-mail address). See links below for selected courses and dates. T.A.s are expected to be on Appledore Island at least one day prior to the start of the course. T.A.s in High School programs are required to live in res halls with pre-freshman and HS students, to serve as chapperones and mentors. Compensation includes a stipend of $415/week plus room and board. Employment documentation is required by Federal Law, and must be completed before arrival on Appledore Island. Summer T.A. positions are available for the following programs:

- Field Marine Science
- Field Marine Biology and Ecology
- Oceanography of the Gulf of Maine (not offered in 2010)
- Marine Environmental Science (high school course)
- Diversity of Fishes
- Anatomy and Function of Marine Vertebrates
- Underwater Research (must have SCUBA certification)
Shoals Marine Lab is a residential, teaching facility; T.A.s, students, faculty and staff all live together on Appledore Island in a close-knit, learning community. Summer T.A. positions are challenging, fun and rewarding! Each T.A. receives a stipend; room, board and transportation between the mainland and Appledore Island are provided. T.A. positions are full-time for the duration of the course. Courses of 3 weeks or more have a free weekend included in the curriculum.
