PUBLIC EDUCATION: Adult and Family Education

All are welcome! Our Adult and Family Education programs offer participants a chance to experience the exciting world of marine science in a remote and unique, island setting. Shoals alumni are encouraged to join us for any and all of these programs -- it's a great way to get back to Appledore Island! have NO prerequisites; they are open to the general public, and ideal for COUPLES and friends as all dorms are set-up as double occupancy.

    In cooperation with Cornell's Adult University, Shoals is pleased to offer: The Gulf of Maine: The Isles of Shoals
    Led by David Bonter, ornithologist and biologist with Cornell's Lab of Ornithology, we will sail out to watch whales and pelagic birds and to explore the distinctive biological and historical treasures of the Isles of Shoals. We'll learn about those who have made their homes on these islands, from Native Americans to poet Celia Thaxter and artist Childe Hassam.
    Program runs from Thursday, September 3 through Sunday, September 6, 2015
    Double occupancy: $1,840 per person. Follow this register by 6/1/15 (save $100 per person if you register by 4/2/15).

Packing Instructions for participants in all Shoals programs - includes what to bring, how to dress, etc. PLEASE BE SURE THAT EACH OF YOUR PIECES OF LUGGAGE (duffels, packs, etc.) WEIGHS LESS than 50LBS.! Bags over 50lbs. may be delayed in getting out to Appledore Island.
