ISLAND BIRD STUDY

dates:    To be offered in 2009

cost:      $tbd

Beginning and experienced birders alike will enjoy Island Bird Study. Every spring and every fall, birds migrating along the Atlantic seaboard journey through the Isles of Shoals. Appledore Island is an extremely important stopover point along this well-traveled route. During spring migration at the Isles of Shoals it is not uncommon to observe over 100 different species of migrants including warblers, shorebirds, and sparrows. Participants will also venture out into Appledore's resident gull colony and heron rookery to experience the raucous thrill of being in the middle of seabird nesting territory. Field trips aboard SML's R/V John M. Kingsbury to surrounding islands in search of Common Eider, Black Guillemot, and Common Tern nesting sites will round-out the weekend program.
