Celia Thaxter's Garden Tours
Shoals Marine Laboratory is pleased to offer tours of Celia Thaxter's Appledore Island Garden through our UNH and Cornell partnership; tours are lead by UNH Marine Docents.
TRIP SUMMARY: Celia Thaxter's Garden Tour participants (35 total) will be transported to and from beautiful Appledore Island aboard the R/V GULF CHALLENGER. Passengers should plan to meet the vessel at UNH's Judd Gregg Marine Research Complex; located at 29 Wentworth Rd. in New Castle, NH. As a part of this unique tour package, you will enjoy a fully-catered luncheon courtesy of Shoals Marine Lab in our beautiful Kiggins Commons Dining Room offering expansive water views and an open deck-- should you wish to dine en plein air!
IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION: Appledore Island is an extremely rugged landscape, with uneven, slightly steep and rocky paths. There are no paved roads or walkways. All tour participants must be 18 years of age or older and should be in good physical condition. PLEASE WEAR FOOTWEAR APPROPRIATE FOR WALKING ON UNEVEN TERRAIN! The majority of the day is spent walking, and participants are required to stay with the tour leader(s) for the entire duration of the time on Appledore Island. Limited seating is available aboard the R/V CHALLENGER (pictured below); passengers must be prepared to stand for the duration of the trip (30-45 minutes).
2013 TOUR DETAILS: Total cost = $100 per person (sorry, no group discounts available). All-inclusive package covers round-trip boat transportation, lunch (includes beverages and dessert, served buffet style w/vegetarian option available), and guided tours. FREE parking is available!
