Annual Gifts
Gifts of any amount for current use help to defray
the present-year expenses of the Shoals Marine Laboratory. Annual
Fund Gifts empower the director to determine areas that are most
critical to the lab's mission and deploy funds to support them.
If you receive a pledge card from Cornell University or UNH, a designation
to the Shoals Marine Laboratory is an annual gift.
Donor-Designated Gifts
Gifts toward the purchase of equipment or construction
of facilities provide opportunities for individuals to support their
special interests and leave a mark on the Shoals Marine Laboratory
in a permanent, tangible way.
Endowment Gifts
An endowment consists of invested gifts, the
earnings on which are used to support the lab, year after year.
The investment earnings on Program Support Endowment provide steady
income to enhance the lab's ability to provide a quality academic
program and attract top-notch field educators. Earnings on Scholarship
Endowment provide scholarship aid to ensure that qualified students,
regardless of their economic background, have access to the Shoals
field experience. Supporting endowment is the best way to ensure
that students will be learning at the Shoals Marine Laboratory in
the decades to come.
Planned Gifts
Gifts other than cash contributions are planned
gifts. Planned gifts such as bequests (leaving assets through an
executed will), life income agreements (giving assets while retaining
income for the rest of your life), gifts of life insurance, stocks
and securities, or real estate may have significant tax advantages
and allow you to make a larger gift than you might have thought
possible. Contact the Shoals Marine Laboratory at (607) 255-3717
to find out more about the benefits of planned giving.
